With all the breaks from school students are having more difficulty than usual but I am confident students will get back into routine in a week or two. This week we had a lot of information to learn. Students learned the letter Vv and Rr.
We explored mixing colors with food coloring outside in the icy snow, played Vehicle guessing games, sang many counting songs, and rhymes to tie into our themes. We also read and discussed books related to our themes.
Please continue to practice numbers and letters that we have learned to date at home. A good way to do this is through reading an ABC or counting book over and over again (every night). Have your child tell you the letter, sound, or number before you read the page. This has helped my daughter in learning her letter and sounds.
Please send a comment below on what is working with your child. We all could gleam from your success. If you are looking for something to do with your child on Fridays I recommend you checking out Pine Grove Elementary's Playgroup located in the gym from 10-11:30am. Toys are provided and it is great place to meet new people and for your kids to make friends and PLAY.

This week we highlighted each student's uniqueness that makes them special, especially how they each hold a special spot in our preschool and their family.
We spent the week focusing on the letter M; identifying its name and sound through many activities. We used the sound box to pull out items that begin with Mm sound.
Since students seem to need more practice with identifying numbers and counting we rolled dice, counted the dice, and identified the number on the hopscotch carpet to jump over. We played BINGO with numbers. Students took turns to pull a card out and count or read the number to the rest of the students. Then all students would find the number on their board.
Next week handprint garden stones will come home with students that were here this week and who wanted to participate. This is a great memento and a highlight of this week's theme.
For those students who know majority of their letters and sounds and are ready for emergent reading I encourage you to check out these on-line books here. Books cannot be printed but if you enlarge the screen view on your computer your child should be able to see it better. To find out what level your child should be reading at then have them read these benchmark books and you should easily be able to determine which section is too easy or too difficult.
For those of you who are looking for improving your child's comprehension skills if they are reading or even if they are not check out this free book adventure where you can find books, have your child take a quiz, and earn prizes. I set up a classroom for our preschool. When registering type in my name and our preschool name. I already set up an account for Karyna. If you would like me to set one up for your child let me know.
Lots of information...soak it all in and have a great 3 day weekend. No school on Monday, January 16th. Sharing item for Wednesday is Vehicles.

This last week our students took part in discussions and activities about how we are all alike even though all of us are unique in our own special ways.
We practiced our math skills by rolling dice, writing the number counted, and doing that amount through an excercise. The kids loved the hands-on kinesthetic that this learning activity encompassed.
We played Go Fish to review our Alphabet and sounds. We do so many activities during a preschool day that it would take me a while to list all that we do. The kids are excited to be back in school and I am eager to see their progress the last half of this school year. Onward Ho!
